Electrical Studies for Mainline Compressor Stations
This natural gas pipeline operator has the capacity to deliver 2.8 Bcf/day to Midwest and East Coast markets. Their mainline gas compressor stations run on a mix of reciprocating compressors and more recently installed turbines, and the operator needed to understand proper safety precautions for the energized areas of the station complex.
MES completed electrical studies for a dozen of the compressor station facilities. The studies analyzed engine rooms, auxiliary electrical equipment, offices, maintenance shops and generators. Maximum fault levels were calculated and problem areas were identified.
Warning Stickers based on study findings advise workers of safe approach distances and levels of personal protective equipment (PPE) required in energized areas of the station complex.
